Cultivate New Visual Contrasts In Otherwise Gloomy Rooms With All Kinds Of Mirrors
Maybe you have a room that is just too cluttered and dark, and does not have the pleasant atmosphere that would make it a relaxing room to entertain in.
It’s a big hassle and a huge mess to rip apart a room because it’s too gloomy, so why not save yourself the bother by simply decorating with a bunch of wonderful mirrors? Mirrors can seem to double the space you’ve got in that otherwise cramped room, and that’s better than what a light colored coat of paint can accomplish in opening up a room.
Your first impulse might be to hang mirrors on your walls, but you can also approach the decorative mission from other angles and use mirrors more creatively. If you lay a full-sized mirror on top of a table and put vases and other decorative items on top of it, you’ll begin taking the furnishings in a different direction.
Wall mirrors always brighten a room, of course, and you certainly can place them on your walls to help open up the space and make it more inviting. You might entertain the idea of hanging a functional mirror near the main doorway of your home as a place to hang your keys and coat once you come in.
When you tilt a tall mirror, one that stands about as tall as you are, against your wall, your room will suddenly seem to have grown vastly in volume. You can double the appeal of a piece of art by hanging a mirror directly across from it and allowing the mirror to echo the artwork from the opposite wall of the room.
Round wall mirrors are a delight to the eye and will add a great deal of visual variety to any room that’s dominated by lots of right angles, as most rooms are. Not only are the mirrors themselves great decorative touches, but the mirrors’ frames can also add welcome dashes of color and visual interest to a room.
If you’d rather try a more creative approach, create an assemblage of different types of mirrors, old ones and new ones, and use the different textures to add variety to your room. A mirror that functions as the focal point of the room should not get any competition from smaller mirrors stationed too close to it.
If your fireplace is sitting there unused, it’s a perfect place for a mirror and some candles, which will reflect warm, flickering light across the room. If your room has a window, you can make good use of the light that filters in through it and place a mirror across from the window at a calculated reflecting angle.
It only takes a little creativity and a handful of mirrors you like, and soon your cramped room will take on a wholly different personality.
