Someone looking to purchase a Vintage Kewpie doll should be aware of the differences in materials used and the general appearance of the modern Kewpie doll and earlier Kewpies. In the first place there are blue wings on the shoulders of the old Antique Kewpie dolls but current vinyl Kewpie dolls have clear colored wings. Original Kewpie dolls were signed by Rose O'Neill or might have her name printed on them. The phrase made in Germany is usually printed in cases where there is no O'Neill printed.
It's sometimes difficult to determine which toy company made the vintage doll as they were not routinely imprinted with a logo as they are today. It was also very common for the earlier dolls to have clothes; and when a Vintage Kewpie doll is found with clothing, it further increases the value of the doll. Vintage Kewpies normally have a red and gold heart on the chest and a round label on the back, which verifies that they are originals.
