Thanksgiving Cooking: How to do it Italian Style
That wonderful time of year is coming around again. It's time to start thinking about the Thanksgiving menu. For a change in the traditional Thanksgiving menu, try to add a fresh and new Italian dish.
Thanksgiving cooking normally revolves around the turkey, stuffing, potatoes, corn and the ever popular pumpkin pie! With a new Italian twist, why not try a new mixture of pork, Italian thin sliced ham and sweet potato mashers. This new combination is sure to be a hit with the family. This is a great new addition to your Thanksgiving dinner recipes.
We normally begin our Thanksgiving with a Caesar salad. Instead of this traditional American salad, we tried a new zesty Italian salad with sliced salami. The salad was a huge success and was one of my best Thanksgiving ideas! The salad is easy to make if you get the pre-sliced salami!
In my box of recipes, under my “Italian” section, I came across my penne with spicy sausage recipe. I thought, “Eureka,” this is going to be my new Italian dish to be served this Thanksgiving! This dish can go with anything. Alternative names for the spicy sausage are "Salsiccia Calabrese" or "soppressata".(Try those names when searching for the sausage.) Your Thanksgiving cooking will never be the same after tasting this golden recipe!
Once you have all the food together, you will need to find a great wine to accompany your new Italian flavors. Although there are many good accompanying wines, wine salami is your best bet! In my opinion, your top three choices are Pinot Grigio, Rose and Chianti. Each wine really showcases the flavors in all of your Italian side dishes!
Incorporating any of these three dishes can really add an Italian flavor to your traditional Thanksgiving! These Thanksgiving dinner recipes are going to be a sure-fire hit with your family and friends. Thanksgiving is a time for not only turkey and stuffing, but also a time to try new dishes and create new traditions for years to come!
