What is 18k gold over sterling silver cushion?
I am looking at buying a class ring and found one that says it is 18k gold over sterling silver cushion. Is this good? Will is eventually wear off the gold? Or is it better just to get sterling silver? Thank you!!
the 18K gold plating over the sterling silver is going to wear off, depending on how often you wear the ring, the kind of rough things you do with your hands (gardening etc.) and how often you clean it. Due to the gold plating, the sterling silver is not going to tarnish. If the gold is yellow gold, the ring won't look too good once the plating starts wearing off and you will need to get it re-plated. If it's white gold, it won't be that noticeable. For myself, I would just get the sterling silver.
