What Sort of Tableware Do You Present to Your Guests

Are you a house-proud super-host, a tight fisted scrooge or are you still a slacker student? You can tell an awful lot about a person from the quality of their crockery and tableware.

I have a dear old friend who works as a teacher but he has never gotten to grip with housework or the importance of cleanliness. He serves tea and coffe in horribly stained mugs that should be consigned to the bin. His mugs are all free giveaways from garages and all are chipped, cracked and stained.

He has never progressed from his student days. He seems blind to the way that guests really appreciate clean mugs that don't present a risk of poisoning. He is a lovely chap but he is completely oblivious to the state of his crockery and what it says about him.

Then we have friends who are the complete opposite using only the finest quality bone china dinner service. The hostess is continually updating her kitchen and dinnerware so the local charity shops get a constant supply of good quality products to sell. But her need to constantly change and update her home accessories is not limited to her dinner service and cutlery. She spends what must be a small fortune on redecorating her house, which she appears to do about 3 times a year, which is probably why her husband spends so much time away on business.

Then we have a group of various friends who are a little tight and don't like to spend any money on their homewares. They will buy all of their plates, bowls and mugs from their local charity shops, probably the ones that our other friends have donated. Their cups, plates and other crockery items are all a variety of sizes and designs, some plain, some patterned and in various colours. I suppose its not surprising that most of these people live alone and don't entertain very often.

So what does your crockery say about you?
