Boston, Massachusetts
Boston might just as well be known as the Dublin of the West. Boston has over 25% of their inhabitants descending directly from Ireland herself. They could be one of the most proud-Irish towns in the United States. Boston celebrates the Irish heritage walk, the parade, and many bagpipers and bands straight from Eire. Generally more than 600,000 folks show up. Plus, the Bostonians are renowned for being able to throw a unforgettable party. Be prepared not to sleep for the week surrounding St. Patrick's Day as the historical town of Boston will be changed into shamrocks, leprechauns, and a straight-up good time!
Chicago, Illinois
What town in the world dies their entire river green? Chicago, that is who. Since 1957, Chicago has died their enormous Chicago River green and celebrated with a massive parade complete with all things St. Patrick's Day. Over 1 million of Chicago's inhabitants are of Irish descendency, so you better make sure that their town is going to go hell for leather. Big Apple, New York
2011 marks the 250th anniversary of the New York City annual Saint Patrick's Day Parade. Over 150,000 marchers take part and over millions of people show up to watch the consequential route down 5th Avenue. The parade is put on wholly by volunteers and donors who run the planet's oldest, and biggest, parade. Furthermore, after the parade all the spectators hit up the standard Irish bars spread around NY City. NY is always famous for doing things bigger and better, and this parade is no different.
Buenos Aires, Argentina
You could be puzzling over why Argentina would have one of the most important St. Patrick's Day Celebrations on the face of the earth. Actually Argentina has the 5th largest Irish community outside of Ireland due to the 1806 English invasion with mostly Irish soldiers. It is expected to see over 50,000 players in the St. Patrick's Day Parade there, and since autumn is just starting in March in the southern hemisphere, the climate will be a delight. Nevertheless don't order the Guiness. They can be up to 20 pesos in a bar which is twice the cost of domestic beers.
