Introducing: King James Version Cebuano Bible   by Reynarose Trasmil

For the first time in Philippine Christian History a Cebuano version of the King James Version of the Bible has finally realized! But better yet- a diglot edtion is out- Parallel Holy Bible (English- Cebuano) Tapad nga Balaang Biblia Hinubad Gikan sa AV Authorized Version- TR Textus Receptus. This coming February 15-16, 2011 by God’s grace the Conservative Bible Baptist Church will have a Bible Conference. Pastor Napoleon Pontillas will initiate the distribution of the Bibles to the Pastors from the Visayan areas. Not only the Parallel Bibles but also the Cebuano Version of the following: Old Testament and New Testament, New Testament, John and Romans and Tracts. What a sight that would be! Pastors will finally have the coveted copies so they will be more equipped in spreading the gospel and so more souls will be saved.

But how did this happen? It was only through fasting, prayers, tears support and much sacrifice of many Christians. To God be the Glory! It all started with FREE- Filipino Resources For Evangelism and Edification Inc way back 1999 in Iligan City. It is a registered organization which was formed to support the translation of the Authorized Bible into Cebuano. With Pastor Ruben Solapas as President, Pastor Nap as Vice President and Pastor Chris Pontillas (brother of Pastor Nap) as the usual host pastor during meetings (fasting) and fellowship they envisioned a Visayan Bible that will help Pastors in the Vis- Min areas in a tremendous way. They prayed for willing and capable translators, printers, and materials for publication and of course support for the realization of the vision. They prayed for millions of copies for the millions of lost who have never read God’s Word.

Indeed it was no easy task. Translators were beset with problems that only a great faith on a great God can handle. Their families had emotional, financial and physical and even mental troubles. Supporting Churches had dilemmas that caused some members to split. It was clear the enemy didn’t want such endeavor to materialize(there was even a time when a laptop containing 2 translated books of the Bible was destroyed!) Of the two translators which Pastor Nap encouraged to work for the translation (Pastor Anano Morales and Pastor Ocresio “Chris” Rabaya) the latter died even before the translation of the whole Bible was finished.

After so many years of hard work and much prayer and faith the Bible was finally finished. The Cebuano Old Testament is a First Edition and the New Testament I think is a Fourth edition already. Organizations supporting Bible translations from foreign countries also supported the translation: Phil Inland and Island Mission from Queensland, Australia and the group of Mike Beach (one of the speakers of the Bible Conference) from New York.

The goal is to have every Cebuano speaking Filipino have a copy. We still need to print more copies of the Word of God. We need support. If you want to be blessed and be a part of this translation and the Bible Conference please contact Pastor Nap- Conservative Bible Baptist Church in Cabantan Cebu. Tel # 2312258
