Is anyone familiar with the picture book "The Red Tree" by Shaun Tan, that can help me analyse it?
I need help analysing the double page "The world is a deaf machine" where the little girl is opening her chest to a lightbulb, and their are war-like structures in the background, and everyone else is looking down? I don't understand it too well... Can someone explain the relevance of the pictures to me? I'm doing this text for belonging by the way, if that helps in any way. Thanks in advance.
The Red Tree is essentially, which you can start at any point and go forward or back. I tried writing or drawing something to the same effect, but all I came up was discouragement, which I believe is more thought provoking, than reading some bleached text. I believe Tan was showing by utilizing art, that everything has a beginning and an end. It is at the end when the little girl enters to find that a red tree has started growing there, filling her room with warmth. The disquieting aspect of this is when the red tree starts to lose it's leaves and no more will it produce leaves, for it's life has come to an end, just like all the pictures throughout the book, everything has an end. Do this for yourself, draw a man picking an apple from a tree, use any colors you wish. After you're done, I would like you to explain to me everything about your picture, do this only if you wish,ok. Please!
