She was only the third woman in history to start her own production company, and the very first to start a production company to make independent films because she was sick and tired of being typecast and stereotyped into dumb blonde roles that were beneath her. She was an early Civil Rights activist, donated generously to numerous charities, and stood up for minorities. She was the first- the very first- celebrity to ever speak openly about sexual abuse in a time when you not only did not speak of such things, the victim was blamed as being at fault for it happening. She was a strong, tough, kind, generous, and brave woman who does not get nearly enough credit.
