Your Costa Blanca Property Can Provide A Home From Home   by Mercedes Jones

A COSTA BLANCA PROPERTY is an excellent place to retire or maybe have as a holiday home abroad. This part of Spain has lots to offer. The history of the area is rich, and there is a variety of places where you can find out about this, or just take in the beauty of the scenery.

Costa Blanca translates as White Coast, and this is certainly true of the beaches around these parts. It is part of the Spanish region of Alicante. As with most of Spain, this area was under Moorish occupation for around 700 years until Ferdinand and Isabella, the Catholic King and Queen led forward the reconquista.

Valencia, one of the three largest cities in Spain, is close to this region. There is some stunning medieval architecture and churches to visit. The cathedral, which is magnificent and worth a visit stands on the site of the temple to Diana built by the Romans.

The main fiesta in Valencia is the Fallas, which take place in mid March. Bonfires and fireworks are the main element of this festival. Figurines of various celebrities are made of papier mache over the course of the year and then set alight on this night.

In Valencia you can sample a paella like nowhere else in Spain. This is where this dish, composed of rice, chicken, seafood and vegetables originates. This is cooked in a large saucepan, which is very like a large wok with a flat bottom, over hot coals.

In the city of Alicante, you will see how medieval architecture blends in with a modern 21st century city. The Castle of Santa Barbara, built around the ninth century by the Moors, overlooks the city. It was later renamed by Alfonso X after the patron saint of the day when it was recaptured. Once used as a prison, it is now open to visitors.

The festival of San Juan is held around Midsummer. As with the Fallas, this too has a fiery theme. The bonfires that are lit have their roots in Pagan times, but are now incorporated into the Christian calendar of festivities. The other major festival in the city is Moros y Cristianos, which commemorates the time of the Spanish reconquista.

This is just a snippet of what you can find on the doorstep of your COSTA BLANCA PROPERTY. You will fall in love with the beautiful scenery and tranquility of the place. The friendly locals will be make you feel at home.
