A wallet-friendly wedding with wishlanterns by Joanna Bedford
A woman's (and often a man's- I don't want to be accused of gender discrimination) wedding day is often one of the most significant moments of her/his life. For many of us, the planning of this day will have started long before we have even met our future partners. Thoughts of the dress, the flowers the food will have wafted through our naive childhood musings. That weddings hold a special status in our society, is an accepted and established fact. The numerous websites, publications and companies dedicated to this one day in a couple's life, and the high stress levels, years of preparation, and folders of cuttings, venue lists and itineraries, are testament to this. But just because a wedding is so vital, life-altering for that matter, it doesn't mean that it has to cost an arm and a leg. You shouldn't have to spend the rest of your lives recovering from the vast hole it has burnt in your wallets.
On the flip side, no one wants a wedding that appears to be a cheap cut-out copy of a more expensive extravaganza, of the 'real' thing. You don't want to be cutting corners on quality or aesthetic appeal. You want your guests to remember your wedding as a wonderful celebration of two people's commitment to one another, not a dodgy affair, with food from Iceland, plastic cutlery and a £5 an hour DJ who plays 'Baby Love' on repeat.
