What is Mind Mapping Software?
Mind Mapping software is any software that is used to create diagrams, pictures, and other graphic visuals in order to show the relationship between ideas or other types of information. With Mind Maps, the key topic or main idea of the information being presented is represented by a central image, located in the center of the map. Any themes surrounding the main topic are shown on branches that are attached to the central image, with subsequent themes of less importance attached by child branches or twigs. The resulting diagram is a mind map of the information and ideas shown in a spatial, rather than linear, format. In addition, along with the ideas shown on the map are images, visual graphics, and colors that the constructor of the map associates with each of the themes and ideas. Mapping out information in this manner is widely believed to allow the brain to process the information in way that is much more consistent with its natural functioning.
Planning a Post-Holiday Shopping Strategy Using a Mind Map
Holly is determined to make the most out of this years post-holiday sale extravaganza. Having gone through every flier and circular in her town paper, she has in mind everything she intends to buy during the days sales -- she only now needs a plan for hitting each sale. Jane decides to organize a strategy for hitting each sale by using a Mind Map, and she begins constructing her map by placing a visual representing the days sales in the maps center. She next attaches branches to the central image, on which she lists the items she intends to buy, along with their sale prices and where they are likely located in the store. On the maps child branches, Holly lists any special notes she has about an item, such as if the item is only on sale at that price during certain store hours. Throughout her Mind Map, Holly uses images and colors to make locating stores and particular items easier. When she has completed her map, it resembles the attached Mind Map diagram.
Managing the Post-Holiday Shopping Experience With the Mind Map
During Hollys day out at the sales, she finds that she has been able to get every item on her list so far. She began her day by choosing the first store she wanted to visit, and finding its location via her map. Once in the store, Jane had no trouble finding the items she would like to purchase, since they and their locations were clearly listed on her map. At the cash register, she was then able to check the price the cashier rung up against the sale price she listed on her map, to make sure she was getting the item on sale. Following a similar pattern at each store, Holly was thus able to quickly and easily get the items on her list at the prices she expected to pay. With only a few stores left on her list, she happily moves to the next one, knowing that, with several hours still left in the shopping day, she will get everything she wants.
