Centerpieces: How To Precisely Set Flag Cases, Shadow Boxes And Ornaments

From commemoration items to jerseys, each acts to attract attention to a particular area within your home. Centerpieces are nice for a room, but these items can often be misplaced and misused by novice decorators. A typical error made by most amateur decorators is they crowd the centerpiece with pictures of their family members or additional ornaments, or hang the item on an off-colored wall. Please note, you want to draw attention to a part of your room with the centerpiece so visitors will be left saying “Oh, how nice” instead of thinking to themselves “Oh, how strange.”

Table Centerpieces with Tablecloths

Tablecloths add character to your kitchen and dining room table; without a cloth, the table often looks bare and plain, and since most people use holiday-themed tablecloths, the centerpiece should coordinate with the cloth as well. You cannot just place any cloth on the table and expect that it will go with the ornament; you have to coordinate your cloth with the color and design of the item. For instance, a brightly-colored glass ornament belonging to a family at a dinner table will not coordinate well with a bright-colored tablecloth; instead, a dark-hue tablecloth will contrast and go better with the colors of the ornament.

Flag Cases

Fallen soldiers are honored with flag cases given to their spouses, and each case is used to pay homage to the courageous actions performed by the solider in combat. Normally, most cases come with an engraving of either The U.S. Great Seal on the glass or have an engraving done on a metal placard with the name of the person and years he lived. If you plan on placing other decoration items around the flag case, it is often great to place candles, photos of you and the fallen or some sort of medal or emblem commemorating his service. Not all ornaments that you place next to the flag case will look respectable; for instance, if you place multiple pictures next to the case, it will look strange, and even if you set a lamp next to it, it should be just a single bulb projecting light downward onto the case.

Shadow Boxes for Jerseys

Sports fans love to place their autographed jerseys inside of shadow boxes in order to protect the products from dust and draw attention to a specific area of the house. When you hang a jersey in a room, you want to surround it with extra memorabilia of the sport or team the person plays for, such as an encased football next to a football jersey. As with the mentioned centerpieces, follow one theme, and if you hang a football jersey, surround it with other football memorabilia and not photos of your family members.
