Gay Holiday In New York
The biggest of America's cities, New York attracts millions of visitors every year who come to experience its unmatched style and culture. There is a very old gay and lesbian scene that stretches back almost one hundred years. Gay travel to New York City is usually centred around Manhattan but other areas such as Brooklyn are also becoming popular of late. Manhattan stands out for its incredible shopping experiences, world class nightlife, and five star dining.
Visitors come to New York City any month of the year. The most popular time has always been during the summer, this is especially true with gay tours from Europe. Fall can be a wonderful time to experience what's on offer and is certainly a season with a charm all of its own. In winter it can be very cold and may even snow, but this can create a warm and cozy feel when sitting in a bar or restaurant.
The gay and lesbian festivals and events can be found throughout the year. New Year's celebrations are unmatched anywhere. During spring there are the NewFest and Tribecca film festivals that attract many gay visitors. There are a number of different Gay Pride events held in various boroughs, the famous New York City event takes place in late June, whilst in Brooklyn and Queens it is held towards the start of June. Halloween is also a popular time to camp it up.
It is useful to understand the layout of the city. It is comprised of five boroughs, of which Manhattan is a narrow island in between the Hudson and East rivers. Not far away from here are the districts of Brooklyn and Queens on the western edge of Long Island.
The city has an excellent mass transit system that is easy to use and very affordable. It doesn't really make sense to hire a car or bring your own as the traffic does not flow quickly and the parking costs are expensive.
New York City is well connected to all the other East Coast urban areas through rail links and long distance bus services. Those flying in will arrive at one of three airports, of which La Guardia is the most convenient for Manhattan
