This is the most common and obvious question that pops up in our heads every time we read about omega 3 or are about to start on any fish oil supplement. Let me give you a frank answer, you will not find exact dosage of omega3 you should take daily in any of the articles. This is because there are a couple of factors affecting the dosage. In this article we will discuss about those factors and the recommended ideal dosage.
Factors that can help you answer how many milligrams of omega 3 fish supplements is required daily to reap maximum benefits -
1.Your Age
It can broadly be categorized in kids, adults and old age. Kids definitely will need the least dose of omega 3 as compared to the other two. Old people will need it the most because of conditions like arthritis or macular degeneration and weak bones.
2.Your health condition
If you have any condition related to heart, brain, eyes, inflammation then you might need a higher dosage as compared to the normal person. On the other hand if you are on aspirin or any other blood thinning medicine then you should take a lower dose because omega3 can further lead to blood dilution that may be detrimental for you.
Dose of omega3 that is good for me might not be good for you.
For normal healthy person, recommended dosage is at least 250mg of DHA type of omega3 fat. Amount of DHA present in oil can be retrieved either from the label or from website of the product company.
I am firm believer of the fact that quality is more important than quantity. It is my humble request to you to check for the quality of fish oil supplement before you actually start taking it.
Effective supplement is pure, fresh and is rich in DHA. It has no rancid odor and it results in no fishy burps. It is derived from fishes (like hoki, found in clean water of southern coast of New Zealand) that are naturally high in DHA. It under goes Molecular distillation process, to ensure that all toxins like mercury, lead, PCBs (that fish flesh might have) are filtered out and only rich and concentrated oil is left behind that is good for human consumption.
